Herbalife Update from Jack Cutsforth

Recently I’ve been introduced to another part of cycling other than chewing my stem raw in the hope of a win. This part of the sport goes by the name of mountain biking and I’ll be honest is a hard nut to crack. It doesn’t help that my first experience of mountain biking was with ex national champion Scott Thwaites and at Stainburn widely renowned as one of the most technical courses in the country.

Rainy days, mudguards and waterproofs.

The winter training for 2011 is well and truly under way. The winter bike is given a service, the mudguards placed in situ and the bike computer zeroed.  Thermals and water proofs are retrieved from the back of the wardrobe, whilst the summer gear is stored away until March.

October and November are the months for laying down the base miles, where even the most serious of cyclists can be seen enjoying the odd coffee stops, whilst still being conscious to lose those extra pounds gained during the “off season”.

On The Track & Training In Scotland – Nils Gustafsson

Just a note to say hello as i haven't been in touch or seen any of you recently. Hope all is well and you are enjoying the end of season break that i can’t justify taking as i did nothing on the bike in August
I’m really busy at uni at the moment but it’s all going good and i am fitting in plenty of training too.
Been up to Manchester for the university national track champs this weekend and it was the most amazing weekend of my life! Can’t describe how amazing it feels to race on that track.

Herbalife Racing Team Newsletter - October 2010

The season may be now be over but plans are already in place for the 2011 season.
Geoff Newcombe and Neil Taylor have been hard at work securing riders for next season and making arrangements to ensure that the 3rd season of Team Herbalife Wheelbase is its most succesful to date.

Setting out the team's ambition for next year, Geoff Newcombe commented,

Hitchin Nomads Autumn Hilly 18 mile Time trial

This was my first time trial since May and with the season coming to an end I thought well why not. The course is basically on my doorstep and is the same one as used for the Whitewebbs Road Race near Whitwell, part of it is used for the Welwyn Wheelers Hilly Time trial so shows its well recognised for being lumpy shall we say. Well it was two laps of the course and what a jolly old time I had.

Watt powermeter? Part 1

There was a time when the powermeter was the preserve of the serious ProTour level rider. Your average clubman wouldn’t have the wherewithal to splash out on an SRM and they were hard to come by. Not so any now. Powermeters are widely available, there are a variety of price points, and with more manufacturers entering the market pricing is expected to become more wallet-friendly.

Getting ready for winter

This time of year – the end of summer and the first days of autumn – has never been my favourite as a bike rider. I can never quite settle on what to wear. One day it’s mild, the next it’s fresh. And the skies generally turn from blue to lead-grey with the lurking menace of a good soaking if you venture too far from home.

Training ride – Gary Date

The Tuesday was a cold sunny day, so I decide to go out for an 86mile training loop around Lake Windermere  in my new inverse racing kit.

I took on the Kirkstone Pass, which is 453 meters of climbing then a fast drop into Patterdale before climbing up and over Matterdale End tp 347 meters. Feeling a bit hungry i dropped into Ambleside for lunch at the Glass House Restaurant.

Of course a trip to The Trek bike shop was necessary before heading back.
