Well all i can say is what a windy race we had today! The wind direction was forming a headwind in the back straight and a tail wind up hill which I thought would make the racing easier today. I was wrong, instead it made it very difficult as the lead group was doing 36mph up the hill!
I ended up getting dropped after 20 minutes or so and found the place I was getting dropped was up the hill rather than trying to shelter from the wind in the back straight. I would have like to have done better today but I found the wind conditions quite frankly near short of hideous! I almost came off twice as well at the top of the hill where you turn down the circuit as the wind changed direction on that corner as you went round it making it very difficult to hold on as my front wheel was turning into a kite! I’m only 62kgs and that was on shallow section wheels, if I’d have been on my cosmic or other deep section rims I’d almost certainly have found it harder.
Today was not my race and not my day (again). To top it all off on the ride down from the circuit my bag full of spare wheels blew in to my front wheel and I managed to come off and do a head first cartwheel off my bike on the path! A moment of stupidity really to carry a handful of wheels and try riding a bike at the same time!
The race did have one attack with both Adam Elderfield and Gavin Morton stringing things along. Eventually though as the race progressed a lead quartet managed to force enough pace to gain about half a lap on the main bunch of the thirds.
On a good note today my Housemate James Fletcher managed to have a decent ride in the 4ths to take a well deserved 3rd place and that was after he had done 2 hours swimming training in the morning!
