The season may be now be over but plans are already in place for the 2011 season.
Geoff Newcombe and Neil Taylor have been hard at work securing riders for next season and making arrangements to ensure that the 3rd season of Team Herbalife Wheelbase is its most succesful to date.
Setting out the team's ambition for next year, Geoff Newcombe commented,
"From a very modest beginning the team can now seriously compete with the UKs best teams . The team will be entering all the Premier Calendar Series Races which will start in late March and take in one a month up to August .
We will also compete in the Elite Series Criteriums which start in June and go through to September. Some of these crit's are expected to be televised as they were in 2010.
Another target for the team will be the Tour Series which this year was sponsored by Halfords and was on TV for all 10 races.
The team already has invitations to race in a number of stage races in the UK, Eire, Northern Ireland, and Belgium and a tentitive offer to race in Spain and France.
Hopefully at the end of 2011, we as a team, will have reached the the top 10 in the UK rankings. A big step forward on our 15th place now. This is paramount, as we would then be in a position to apply for a U C I continental pro licence which would give the team access to a lot of events on the U C I calender. This is so important, not only for the teams development of young riders but extensive media exposure for all the teams sponsors as the coverage then is on a much bigger and wider scale.
The Team have a five year plan / vision and so far we are on course to achieve the goal. At the end of year 4 - ie 2012 - we will have the finance in place to be in the top five of the UK cycling rankings and therefore have the riders to make us competitive in the U K and Europe. That is a totally different place to where we are now.
But the team has made steady progress in the last two seasons to where we are now and should be able to make steady progress in the forseeable future."
Recent additions to the team have been:
Simon Baxter has been training with and taking tips from Teesside’s multiple Olympic track medalist Chris Newton - who this year retired from Rapha Condor Sharp to take up a coaching position with British Cycling - and the spade work has showed in his results.
The 23-year-old took three top 20 places in the elite national Premier Calendar, including 16th in appalling conditions in the Rydale Grand Prix.
Andy Coupe, an Elite rider was the winner of the Cycling Development North West league 2009 and joins the team from local club Team Wallis.
Jack Cutsforth joins the team on the recommendation of former 70's and 80's professional rider Sid Barras who was one of the UK's most sucessful racing cyclists. With 380 wins to his name, including 3 National Championships and a stage win in the tour of Switzerland, Sid should know what he is talking about.
Jack spoke about next year saying,
"Looking forward to the new season with Team Herbalife Wheelbase and hoping to produce some good results for the team."
Speaking about the next season Alistair commented,
"I'm looking forward to working with the strengthened squad, and helping on the road. Having mainly ridden alone, and unassisted, in recent years I'll be looking forward to working as part of a team in National series races and elite races across the UK and further afield. We've got a strong squad of committed, motivated riders who love racing, and who I'm confident will be bettering past performances. Having observed the professionalism of the Herbalife Wheelbase set up in it's first two years, I'm looking forward to becoming part of that and helping to push the team to new heights. Elite level racing has flourised in the UK over the last few years and the standard is increasing continually; we look forward to an exciting season ahead."
Ian Taylor, from the north-east is the fifth rider to join the team and moves over from bGlobal. He took 2nd in the General Classification in the Morecambe Bay 2 Day stage race. A tall rangey rider, he has ridden consistently throughout the year and has been competitive since March untill just finishing his last Hill Climb this month.
With the new team kit and bikes currently being organized the riders should have all they need to another succesful season in 2011.
"I hit a pothole in the road and came off my bike. I have been receiving physiotherapy on my shoulder thanks to Cyclaim and have now fully recovered."
"The cyclaim team offered me an excellent service and the advice given was straight forward and clear. My bike was a write off following the accident and now I have a brand new bike and a few quid in my pocket - all thanks to Cyclaim"
